The story about Atlantis is very interesting. Atlantis is a legendary “lost” island subcontinent often idealized as an advanced, utopian society holding wisdom that could bring world peace. The idea of Atlantis has captivated dreamers, occultists and New Agers for generations.
It serves constantly as a warning for modern society against every possible threat from war to climate change to alien invasion, where applicable. It was been said that Atlantis was a great city long ago but gods became angry when Atlantis people became evil and greedy. This phenomena exist because Atlantis vanished and no one ever saw it again.
Unlike many legends, the origin of Atlantis had been stated in the story. About two hundred years later, Plato got hold of this treasured text and relayed the legend in the form of dialogues in his “Timaeus” and “Critias,” written about 330 B.C. The Egyptians had told Solon that this was the island where the art of civilization truly began, and that the Greek and the Egyptian cultures were merely off-shoots of that original civilization. They also said that the island was submerged around 9,600 BC and had been in existence for many thousands of years before the great flood.
Though today Atlantis is often thought of as a peaceful utopia, the Atlantis that Plato described in his fable was very different. In his book “Frauds, Myths and Mysteries: Science and Pseudoscience in Archaeology” (McGraw-Hill, 2013) professor of archaeology Ken Feder summarizes the story: “A technologically sophisticated but morally bankrupt evil empire — Atlantis — attempts world domination by force. The only thing standing in its way is a relatively small group of spiritually pure, morally principled and incorruptible people — the ancient Athenians. Overcoming overwhelming odds … the Athenians are able to defeat their far more powerful adversary simply through the force of their spirit.
It was first documented by the ancient Greek philosophers. They were the most advanced civilization on Earth, but even them couldn’t stop whatever catastrophe managed to sink their island into the Atlantic. For centuries many people dreamed about finding this lost city and unlocking the secrets to its fate, so that we might prevent the same thing happening to us!
Alan Cameron states : “It is only in modern times that people have taken Atlantis story seriously ; no one did so in antiquity”. Atlantis inspired today’s literature ; from science fiction to comic books to movies.
The theory of the lost city to draw fancy maps of it, which sure does feel like a step in the right direction for some reason had planned. Today’s generation is the first in history that has the technological capability to search the ocean depths, and the world’s first detailed underwater map of the eastern Mediterranean seafloor was produced especially for the Cyprus-Atlantis Project.
After ten years of research and the creation of proprietary maps and 3D models, Robert Sarmast has discovered astounding evidence of the sunken isle of Atlantis (or some might call it Eden), a lost land mass that many believe to be the prehistoric cultural source of Western civilization. The theory put forth in Robert Sarmast’s book “Discovery of Atlantis: the Startling Case for the Island of Cyprus” was published by Origin Press in October of 2003 and caused a news sensation as it was the first time a real underwater landmass had been matched with Plato’s detailed description of Atlantis. Over fifty physical matches were provided.
Shortly after the publication of the book, Robert traveled to Cyprusand spent the next year preparing for a scientific expedition, which occurred in November of 2004. The astonishing results of this expedition (sonar generated images of the seafloor) created headlines around the world as the images showed clear evidence of man-made structures fifty miles from the nearest shore, and one mile under water, exactly where Robert had been predicted they would be.
However, this hasn’t stopped proponents of the theory of the lost city to draw fancy maps of it, which sure does feel like a step in the right direction for some reason.
Nevertheless, Atlantis has turned into a bit of a super-conspiracy theory which absorbs just about anything you throw at it, and has served as a tentative answer to basically every other mystery in this article.
Atlantis is not a thing.
The knowledge of plate tectonics rules out the possibility of sunken mystery continents. But there’s a far more convincing reason than even this: That is, Atlantis was something that Plato completely pulled out of his ass just so Socrates could have something to talk about, and he specifically mentions in his writing that Atlantis is a completely hypothetical city.
This is part of the reason why Atlantis was not taken seriously until modern times. Most ancients actually took Plato’s dialogues as the thought experiments they really were.
What’s more, the book that mentions Atlantis, the Timaeus, is fewer than 100 pages long. This is shit you can seriously knock out while you’re killing time at the bus station. Though it should not come as much surprise that countless books and god knows how many hours of the History Channel have been dedicated to asking a riddle as easy to solve as looking up a word in the dictionary. It’s pretty damn easy to pass yourself as an expert in a book that most people have never actually read past the first few pages.
