Self-test is the key to effective learning. It’s only when you recall facts from your memory that you make strong memories. It’s not a waste of time to struggle to remember. The more effort you put into your learning, the more effective it becomes.
Ability to imagine and curiosity is what needed to spark true intelligence and ability to learn.The thought of putting highlighter down and learn the materials will serve no purpose as you wouldn’t stop highlighting everything because all the material was so foreign to you. But if you will figure something out and imagine things, then, you showed interest and motivated to learn.
Understand and memorize. The process of summarizing and finding connections, then taking notes or discussing about the topic, is essential to “understanding” material. Memorization is an inefficient way to learn without understanding. Instead of repeatedly scanning the same information for minimal benefit, invest your time learning in creating connections with the information you are learning. Not only is it a more natural way to learn, it isn’t painfully boring like most memorization task are. Learning does not occur until able to understand information then apply what we have learned to a new situation.
