The Impossible Dream (The Quest)

The Impossible Dream (The Quest)

Elvis Presley – The Impossible Dream Lyrics

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not goTo right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable starThis is my quest, to follow that star,
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right without question or cause
To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause

And I know if I’ll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I’m laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To fight the unbeatable foe, to reach the unreachable star

“The Impossible Dream (The Quest)” is a popular song composed by Mitch Leigh, with lyrics written by Joe Darion. It was written for the 1965 musical Man of La Mancha. It is the main song from the musical and became its most popular hit. The song is sung all the way through once in the musical by Don Quixote as he stands vigil over his armor, in response to Aldonza (Dulcinea)’s question about what he means by “following the quest”. It is reprised partially three more times – the last by prisoners in a dungeon as Miguel de Cervantes and his manservant mount the drawbridge – like prison staircase to face trial by the Spanish Inquisition. It was awarded the Contemporary Classics Award from the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
The song is strongly associated with the 1967 Boston Red Sox, as their pennant-winning season was popularly dubbed “The Impossible Dream”.The song was also played during Sir Alex Ferguson’s last home game at Old Trafford in 2013. ”The Impossible Dream — Made Possible” reads one of the banners lauding Sir Alex Ferguson’s trophy haul at Old Trafford…

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.”… I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character…”

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ~ August 28, 1963  I Have A Dream

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you

didn’t do than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover.”
~ Mark Twain (1835-1910)

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”

~ Harriet Tubman (1820 – 1913)

To give one’s all in spite of overwhelming odd and public derision, to reach for the goal that everyone says is impossible and/or ridiculous. To stand for something instead of falling for anything. To stand for the right when all around champion the wrong. This is part of what the song Impossible Dream  means .

Everyone starts from a dream. Dreams drive our determination to succeed. Dreams increases our will power. In reaching your dreams, it’s not always a safe and smooth road. You need to encounter a lot of trials and hardships. A lot of times you will fail before you can even see a first glimpse of success. You should be able “to fight the unbeatable foe” and “to run where the brave dare not go”.

Failures are always part of every success. It teaches us valuable lessons in life. It makes us stronger to withstand more challenges that comes along our way in achieving our dreams. Sometimes, you will feel lonely in achieving these dreams as you have “to bear with unbearable sorrow”.

“To reach the unreachable star” is not always easy. You need to possess the discipline and courage “to fight for the right without question or pause.” You need to be more focused on “to follow that star no matter how hopeless no matter how far.”

The song Impossible Dream reminds me that we should strive hard for our dreams. Each one of us has a purpose in this world, a quest to follow. Don’t limit yourself in reaching small dream. Reach the “impossible dream”, “the unreachable star”.
